Janzen will greet fans at the PNC Father/Son Challenge Interactive Experience at Orlando’s Fall Fiesta in the Park, Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013
ORLANDO, FLORIDA – Lee Janzen cemented his place in golf history with two U.S. Open victories, but a gesture he made to a friend goes a long way toward showing that the golf legend and PNC Father/Son Challenge competitor is much more than a golfer.
Janzen will appear at the 2013 PNC Father/Son Challenge interactive experience at Orlando’s Fall Fiesta in the Park, from 12 to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013 along Lake Eola. Hosted in conjunction with Nike and Edwin Watts, Janzen will be on hand to greet fans, sign autographs and give swing tips.
The Orlando resident most recently played the PNC Father/Son Challenge in 2012 with his son, Connor, who returns again this year. In 2004, Janzen made Father/Son history when he invited his late friend Payne Stewart’s son, Aaron, to play.
“Even before last year, I knew what a great time the Father/Son was,” he continued. “I’m happy that Aaron Stewart got to play in the Father/Son with me, and later with Paul Azinger in 2008.”
Janzen and Stewart were dear friends and fierce competitors. Both of Janzen’s U.S. Open victories came over Stewart, and his PLAYERS Championship win came on a day when he was paired with Stewart in the final group. While watching the Father/Son on television in 2003, Janzen realized that Aaron Stewart would never have the opportunity to play the event. After a call to NBC Sports, it was agreed that Janzen could invite Aaron to enjoy the tournament from inside-the-ropes in 2004.
“Last year’s Father/Son was an awesome experience,” said Janzen, who finished 11th alongside Connor in 2012. “Competing with my son Connor at my side during any tournament would be cool, but to play with Connor alongside the greats of the game? It doesn’t get any better.”
Jack Nicklaus headlines a field full of golf’s biggest legends when the PNC Father/Son Challenge tees off for the 15th time, Dec. 12-15, 2013, at The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club, Orlando, Grande Lakes in Florida.
The PNC Father/Son Challenge, held for 14 years from 1995-2008, made a triumphant return last season with new title sponsor, The PNC Financial Services Group, Inc. Davis Love III and his son, Davis “Dru” Love IV, hoisted the Willie Park trophy and return as defending champions this year alongside past winners and legends of the game including Larry Nelson (2004, 2007-08), Bernhard Langer (2005-06), Hale Irwin (2003), Raymond Floyd (1995, 1996, 1997, 2000, 2001) and Nicklaus (1999), who will play this year with son, Jack Nicklaus II.
The 43rd Annual Fall Fiesta in the Park at Lake Eola Park will also feature live entertainment at the amphitheater, food and beverage vendors and over 300 original artist and crafter booths.
