LPGA stars, Korda and Sorenstam set to compete in 2023 PNC Championship

November 13, 2023

Nelly Korda and Annika Sorenstam will play in the 2023 PNC Championship at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club Orlando, Grande Lakes, Dec.14-17.

Korda, at 25 years old, has already spent 37 weeks at World No.1, while Sorenstam dominated the women’s game for much of her career, sitting atop the Rolex World Rankings for 60 weeks and winning ten majors and 72 LPGA titles along the way.

Korda will make her third appearance in the PNC Championship partnering with her dad, Australian Open tennis champion, Petr Korda. The twosome finished tied for 5th last year. Sorenstam will once again play with her 12-year-old son Will. As the youngest player to ever tee it up in the PNC Championship last year, fan favorite Will rated his debut experience at Grande Lakes a ‘10 out of 10’ and will be hoping to follow up on his impressive showing last year.

“Will and I have been looking forward to the PNC Championship all year. We had an amazing experience last year, both playing together and being able to share the whole adventure with our family.   The memories we made will stay with us forever,” Sorenstam said. “I was so proud of the way Will handled the pressure of playing in front of so many fans and among so many legends of the game. He played well and enjoyed every single minute, which is what it’s all about.”

“I am thrilled to be invited back to be part of this very special event which has already come to mean so much to both me and dad, and our family, Korda said. “We managed to improve to T5th place last year so hopefully we can get in the mix again this year as I can’t think of a sweeter way to end the season than by winning alongside my dad!”

Korda and Sorenstam join a host of past champions already confirmed: defending champions Vijay and Qass Singh, John Daly (2021), Justin Thomas (2020), David Duval (2016), Stewart Cink (2013) and Bernhard Langer (2005, 2006, 2014, 2019).

This is PNC Bank’s 12th year as the tournament’s title sponsor. The event was renamed the PNC Championship in 2020, reflecting the world class talent at this inclusive family tournament that showcases the special bonds that the love of golf creates.

The tournament, which will be broadcast live across NBC, GOLF Channel and Peacock, attracts major champions whose victories this year span 1959 to the present day. Last year, the PNC Championship gathered a field of golfing greats that had won 73 major titles. With only 20 teams competing, players past and present have shown unprecedented interest in campaigning for a spot in the star-studded line-up.

The PNC Championship has continued to evolve and develop since the inaugural tournament in 1995, when 10 major winners gathered with their sons. The tournament now features 20 major champions and their relatives competing in a two-day, 36-hole scramble for the Willie Park Trophy.

To qualify for the PNC Championship, players must have won a major championship or The Players Championship. Their partner must not hold any playing status on a professional Tour.

The PNC Championship is operated in partnership by IMG and NBC Sports.
